Take a Hike in Desert Hot Springs
Desert Hot Springs Hiking Trails
In a town full of spas, hotels and restaurants comes scenic hiking trails for discovering and exploring. Our most favorite location for hiking at the moment is on the top of Miracle Hill (where Pierson Blvd meets Miracle Hill Road). There are lots of options for different trail routes once you enter and we like to try a new way each time we go. And, there’s also an “art” exhibit at this hiking spot that seems to be popular for travelers/tourists visiting the area. Port-a-potty on site for public restroom and parking as well.
Best Times to Hike in Desert Hot Springs
If you live in or have ever visited Desert Hot Springs, you know that is gets quite hot here during the Summer months and then cools down nicely for Fall and Winter dates so early morning (until about 10:30am PT) and late afternoon/sunset times are the most ideal times to of the day to go hiking throughout the year.
The sun shines bright in California’s Spa City with not much for shade covering on the trails so anytime after about 11am until ~2hrs before sunset will be pretty extreme with the sun out. We’re in the desert and the weather can be rough at times so just be mindful when planning and packing for your hike.
Things to Consider Bringing for Your Hike
They don’t call if Desert Hot Springs for nothing. It’s a desert environment (with mineral springs waters flowing naturally throughout the town) so our top recommendation for what to bring with you is water. Staying hydrated out here, especially while hiking, is a must. Other hiking gear and/or items to consider packing include the following:
Backpack (or bag, satchel, pack)
Hiking Shoes (or supportive tennis shoes/sneakers)
Hat and Sunglasses (for the sunny times of the day)
Snacks (like bananas, dates, oranges, apples, et al energy providing fruits and dried fruits)
Things to Consider Doing on Your Hike
In addition to enjoying Mother Nature and the lovely desert setting that we are blessed with here in Desert Hot Springs, we do have a few things that we love to do while hiking. Watching the sunset while hiking is perhaps one of our most favorite things to do but we also love to go off-trail and walk up (and down) the hills of the mountains.
Spotting rabbits and butterflies and blooming cactus plants and wildflowers on hikes is also enjoyable for us. These hikes are also fantastic for photography/picture taking, walking meditations and leg, lower back and core muscle toning. Whatever you do and however you do it, safe trails to you in Desert Hot Springs.
